INDICATORS - The pattern components that continuously
rotate per year, month, daily, lunar or solar phase. The indicators below
articulate the current alignment.
LUNAR YEAR: YANG EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance
“Charged: loyal, caring,
protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under
fire, just, expansive,
congenial and quiet.
Deplete: stubborn,
argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and
excessively critical.
Image: The Dog talked
about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more
than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion.
The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy
chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect
even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."
YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’
EARTH is the native
element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny
and independent
characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult
situations and avoiding
confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong
idealistic aspirations
fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not
express their feelings
or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."
LUNAR MONTH: YIN WOOD OX (1865, 1925, 1985, 2045, 2105) ‘Ox at Sea’
Wood Ox are particularly
humble and naive characters. They do well in school and in any conventional
activity involving strength and commitment (romance, marriage and family). They
often imagine their own resources (material and emotional) to be more limited
than they are and this leads to miserliness and shyness. Their constitutions
are strong and they have few illnesses when young. Sleep is a remedy for most
ailments. In later life (after 48) they age quickly and may suffer from chronic
digestive disorders.
Qi Node: 24 Great Cold
Malignant Yin
"The Great Cold qi
node is Big Yin's last stand for the year - 'Cold rolls up into Heaven'. The
fact is Yin power is nearly exhausted. It is the systole of yin/yang
transformation - a pause and stillness before the stirring of spring and the
return of Yang. It is time to remain withdrawn and silent. Cold and Damp unite
and ride the Wind. The Cold is ghostly and hollow but still dangerous and
penetrating.
"During this qi
node Great Cold qi is best at 2 am. One should practice neigong in the evening
before bed and just before dawn facing the northeast. Do not exert yourself,
but let the yang qi stir - feel warm. During the day eat two small meals. Is is
still the dead of winter so do not abandon the conservation of your yang qi.
Rest often and throughout the day and work indoors. Do not think too much.
"During this time
the Great Yin of winter is fallen - a cold Damp (pernicious qi) spreads, along
the ground. Go to bed early and avoid the cold night winds that harm the lungs.
Your genetic predisposition for illness and death (ghosts) are on the surface
(abroad) and can be adjusted, cleared or subdued. Heavy phlegm and cold
diarrhea that do not respond to treatment are dangerous signs of possession.
Stay warm. Stimulating massage is okay but should not stir up yang. Warm baths
and brushing the skin red are good.
"The groundless
feeling of depression, fear and 'just surviving' are common symptoms of
malignant yin. The unsettled dead cause outbursts of emotion (possession/fear)
that hurt the Lungs and Colon - try to stay calm, but not lethargic. Strange
and/or profound dreams are good signs of the transformation and resolution of
ghosts."

LUNAR HEXAGRAM: 46 Sheng: Ascending
"Since Sheng is
about ascending naturally, the auspices stay favorable if you are receptive and
subordinate. Your talents are recognized and they suit the times. Steady
gradual progress is indicated."

TUESDAY January 22, Yin Earth Goat 17
Hexagram Consult the
Oracle
Lunar Mansion: The Tail
/ Tiger
Solar Indicator: Destroy
Be observant and take hold of
opportunity. Today's character, proud, obstinate and aloof may blend nicely
with a day beneficial for supporting family and possibly canceling what is no
longer supportive.
“It is auspicious to start a
building (brings prosperity), get married (brings fertility), bury the dead
(resolves karma) and educate the young (secure longevity) on this day. It is a
good time to move house (into a city). These actions today cause a person or
family and all their projects to flourish. On this day investments increase in
value. It is ideal to give or receive (spend) inheritances. Enjoying the arts
is appropriate. Lost treasures can be found on this day. It is ideal for
self-cultivation, meditation and enjoyment. It is a time of recognizing and
acknowledging achievement with rewards. Evening is less auspicious.”
LM Notes: The Tail
“The successful prince as warrior
must now lose his youthful ambitions and develop into a proper king….Today
calculated loss (cancellation) succeeds”
LM Notes: Destroy
WEDNESDAY January 23, Yang Metal Monkey 18
Hexagram 32 Heng:
Constancy
Lunar Mansion: The
Basket / Leopard
Solar Indicator: Danger
There is an intelligent versatility
in the day, and auspices for both engagement and caution. Be observant and
generous for the best results.
“Heng is very
favorable for carrying out routine work. Maintaining and practicing what is
durable in life brings good fortune."
LM Changing: Zhouyi 32 Heng
"It is auspicious
to marry, work hard, purchase, build and remodel (new door = new
resources) on this day. It is auspicious to continue your routine work, review
and reinvest. Acquiring wealth (work, invest and collecting debts) is
highlighted. Good for burials, memorials and funerals (rain of blessings from
the ancestors). Contraindicated activity: Laziness, gossip and slander."
LM Notes: The Basket
“To roust hypocrisy in
his new alliances the leader must bait his hidden enemies (yin) by showing
vulnerability. This day is a qi expression of true power but all the action is
fraught with danger and risk. The games of political power are also the precursors
of decline. The power plays show yin to be drawing life from the heart of yang.
Success is limited now to a kind of survival. Manipulation and covert action
succeed. Elegance becomes the mask of cleverness and intrigue. Doing only what
needs to be done is best. Old habits or patterns of pressing forward will
invite catastrophe. Beware grudges.”
LM Notes: Danger

38 Kui: Incompatible
“Unfavorable for planning or forward
progress. Expect to be frustrated but make small gains. It is a good time to
seek counsel from those with expertise and wisdom...Try a little
self-reflection and humility."

THURSDAY January 24, Yin Metal Rooster 19
Hexagram 50 Ding:
Tri-pod Vessel
Lunar Mansion: The Ladle
/ Griffon
Solar Indicator:
Complete
Articulate and confident today's
character is comfortable engaging, like yesterday, though may not take full
advantage of the opportunity to both engage AND relax.
"It is a time of
education and great spiritual and material success. Don’t rush. Your superiors
notice you. Opportunity is abundant. Alliances are offered to you on all
sides.”
LM Changing: Zhouyi 50 Ding
"It is a most
auspicious day for Daoist religious rites, initiations and transmission of
(esoteric) teachings. It is an auspicious day to start up a business and build
a new building (home, temple). It is a safe day to dig foundations (wells,
trenches) and get married. New opportunities (news) abound - taking exams and
routine work bring great success/reward on this day. It is an auspicious day to
bury the dead - they will rest peacefully and benefit the surviving relatives.”
"Contraindicated
activity: Hypocrisy, irreverence, breaking taboos and sloth."
LM Notes: The Ladle
“It is a day for resting
on your laurels. Success is established and secured and the new state seems to
govern itself. Enemies are few. It is a time for inward reflection (yin) on the
bare face of reality (yang). Struggle (yang) is no longer possible or necessary
(yin). Decline is not feared and success not celebrated. Wisdom approaches and
withdrawing succeeds. Art is the demonstration of confidence, dignity and
wisdom - be artful. No more accumulating - decorate with modesty. The way of
perfecting power is austerity and restraint. Do less, have less, show less and
seek nothing. Enjoy what is already manifest.”
LM Notes: Complete
FRIDAY January 25, Yang Water Dog 20
Hexagram 28 Da Guo:
Excess
Lunar Mansion: The Oxboy
/ Ox
Solar Indicator: Harvest
Today's character offers a more
light-hearted character, though the auspices of the day are awkward and
tenuous. Go with the flow and retreat where ever possible.
“Da Guo contains
instructions on how to avoid disaster in heavy, grave or weird and unconventional
circumstances. When you get entangled in excess, going forward with caution may
be the best thing to do. Excess and eccentricity have their place. Something
greater than the usual mechanical sense of cause and effect is at work in Da
Guo."
LM Changing: Zhouyi 28 Da Guo
“It is auspicious to
stay home, guard resources, meditate and focus. It is auspicious to initiate
austerity, enter retreat, recover and economize.”
LM Notes: The Oxboy
“What makes this day
smooth is a sense of fearlessness. It is not so much how it goes (yang) as what
it shows (yin). Rise and fall are no longer the point - the wide view can be
taken. Ease is possible - effortless continuity on all sides. The qi seems to
float us forward quite naturally - ebbing and flowing are both acceptable. The
lessons of earthly life are found in both maturing and declining. Everything
succeeds. Cleverness and survival give way to courage and directness. Be like
the beloved monarch and not an ambitious merchant. Let new resources and
assistants come forward by standing back.”
LM Notes: Harvest
