"Great Heat refers to the extreme heat in the yang twilight of the year. Oppressive heat draws up the dampness of the Earth. At this time declining Yang partners with the inter-seasonal Earth and creates Dam Heat. Damp Heat has an oppressive quality (mold, rot) in this qi node and it fosters unprecedented growth and a legion of illnesses. Though much continues to grow and flourish we must avoid the pernicious quality of the season. The great mantle of Yang must be handed down to Yin. The wise prepare for transference not defeat.

During this qi node the environmental qi (Heaven/Earth) is best at 2pm. Practice neigong several times a day facing due south. Dress lightly, wash your hair often and stroll about to avoid the damp. Chew well. During the day eat two meals, rest (nap) after lunch, snacks of fruit (melon, grapes) are good on hot days. Drink green and flower tea (jasmine, honeysuckle, lily) and in the evening enjoy a light savory soup.

It is a good time for initiating new and practical disciplines of conservation (that anticipate autumn). It is not a time for laziness and indolence but it is auspicious to edit what is 'unrighteous' - do not store what will mold or close down too soon.

"Water Horses are independent, hard-working and thrifty characters. They are particularly gifted craftspeople and have a friendly demeanor. They easily offer themselves to protect and ‘save’ others (military). They are not adverse to intentional ‘tragedy’ (heroism). Their fortunes are likely to improve as they grow old. The most emotional of all Horses they tend to compromise their health with repressed feelings. Their livers are weak and they are susceptible to curses and spells."

The fifth moon is when yang is "full-on". Though it is the very nature of growth, yang has a dark side, related to aberration and calamity. It is almost as if Life an Death are at odds with each other right now. What does not grow to fullness will very quickly wither or rot. Fire is a wonder but it is also a danger. When fire touches Earth without the response of Heaven's rain, calamity and famine may occur. Human being must appropriately participate (gan yin) in Heaven and Earth's affairs to bring about their natural abundance. The educational process (precautions) of spring is now certainly tested. The sincerity and precision (musical tone) of ritual must be impeccable. The chain of command must be reliable and unquestioned (see Zhouyi hexagram 7).

Many of the images regarding the 5th moon relate to the exorcism of, or cure for, excessive yang. Red amulets against the damaging heat (represented by greedy, ruthless, blood-drinking demons) are offered at all temples to protect parishioners from the excesses of yang. Excesses controlled, the 5th moon is very rich. If good choices and sound management get us here, the rewards are extraordinary. Abundance is the response.

Lunar Month: WATER HORSE 5

The Wood Goat, a little girl kid, lends a soft grounded context for us this year; Still very new, maturing quickly and playfully, sincere and disciplined. Herd up, slough off what no longer serves your appetite, compost and go fresh.

"Water Horses are independent, hard-working and thrifty characters. They are particularly gifted craftspeople and have a friendly demeanor. They easily offer themselves to protect and ‘save’ others (military). They are not adverse to intentional ‘tragedy’ (heroism). Their fortunes are likely to improve as they grow old. The most emotional of all Horses they tend to compromise their health with repressed feelings. Their livers are weak and they are susceptible to curses and spells."

The fifth moon is when yang is "full-on". Though it is the very nature of growth, yang has a dark side, related to aberration and calamity. It is almost as if Life an Death are at odds with each other right now. What does not grow to fullness will very quickly wither or rot. Fire is a wonder but it is also a danger. When fire touches Earth without the response of Heaven's rain, calamity and famine may occur. Human being must appropriately participate (gan yin) in Heaven and Earth's affairs to bring about their natural abundance. The educational process (precautions) of spring is now certainly tested. The sincerity and precision (musical tone) of ritual must be impeccable. The chain of command must be reliable and unquestioned (see Zhouyi hexagram 7).

Many of the images regarding the 5th moon relate to the exorcism of, or cure for, excessive yang. Red amulets against the damaging heat (represented by greedy, ruthless, blood-drinking demons) are offered at all temples to protect parishioners from the excesses of yang. Excesses controlled, the 5th moon is very rich. If good choices and sound management get us here, the rewards are extraordinary. Abundance is the response.

In Slight or Small Heat qi node Yang begins its inevitable decline but growth is extended. The weather turns mild. Fruits and vegetables are abundant. Cicadas and crickets choruses are heard day and night. Twilight is beautiful. Barns bulge with the abundance. The Prince ascends the throne (yang matures) and becomes King. What will Yang's legacy be? Is it survival at any cost (brutishness) or the fullness of true and elegant majesty (wisdom)?

"Jing is about the natural reciprocity in the human relationship to nature. The Zhouyi says that the unevenness of nature (well) mirrors the unevenness of our conduct. If we act inappropriately we ruin our resouces (dry well). In the Zhouyi nature is not an almighty god that stands in judgment of us, meting out punishment for our wrongs. Nature is a dialog." Today is about feeling the Earth beneath your feet. The Chinese Wisdom Science view of life is cyclical, filled with seasons and always returning to the origin. There is already momentum to the day, therefore root that flow with appropriate practices, routine actions and education. Make offerings to ancestors - those who were part of creating the cyclical flow in which you now exist. Consult oracles and physicians. Good for reunions, marriages and retirement. Avoid travel by sea, contracts and getting married.

27 Yi: Jaws - The Room, Destroy -
True modesty, straight-forwardness and sincerity offer success today. The timely ascension from child to adult, associated with the Spring Equinox and the loss of childless. Therefore cancellations (loss) succeeds today.
