Year: WOOD GOAT 4713
The Wood Goat, a little girl kid, lends a soft grounded context for us this year; Still very new, maturing quickly and playfully, sincere and disciplined. Herd up, slough off what no longer serves your appetite, compost and go fresh.

Lunar Month: FIRE DOG
"Fire Dogs are patient, persevering and kind-hearted. Strong (even aggressive) at standing up for others, they forget to speak for themselves. Their strength isolates them. They are poor planners but excellent and dedicated problem solvers. The problems they solve are often of their own making. They may lose a home or business to fire. They do not enjoy good health due to inherited liver and heat disorders. Their fortunes are shaped by the vague and unresolved longings of their dead ancestors (which must be resolved).LM Notes

Qi Node: 18 Frost Descends
Yin Encloses Yang
"The Frost Descends qi node is when autumn collapses into winter. Lesser Yin gives way to Great Yin. On Earth stasis and frost are prevalent. As the autumn descends into winter, natural activity appears to subside. In fact, activity simply withdraws deeper and deeper inward and down. The northwest wind carries in the growing cold with transitional dam. Days grow short (yang diminishes). During this period the environment grows ever more yin and is characterized by hoarfrost. Dampness (Earth) rides the cold wind and is variable. Snow threatens. The blustery wind is pernicious cold/damp.

Yang, withdrawing in and downward, must not be called back up and out. Dress warmly and stay out of the wind. During the period qi is best at 8pm. Neigong is practiced inside where it is warm, rub your belly until it turns red. Eat warm and nourishing meals and go to bed early. Even if the weather is not cold (temperature) do not get caught in the wind."

LM The Way of Three Treasures

Lunar Hexagram: 36 Mingyi: Pheasant Call
"For the Confucian commentators, the story of Ji Zi upholds the notion that the reward for integrity is simply having integrity, not necessarily getting your way."
LChanging: Zhouyi

SUNDAY November 1, Yin Metal Snake 20
Hexagram: 9 Xiao Xu: Minor Force
Lunar Mansion: The Room/Hare
Solar Indicator: Danger
"It is best to subordinate to or ally yourself with the strong or wait to accumulate more strength and resources. Do not be rambunctious, distracted or diverted. Small projects well done will eventually add up to success. Obstacles and delays can be expected in any forward action."
LChanging: Zhouyi

"It is auspicious to make (sincere) offerings to ancestors, consult oracles, practice ritual and meditation, move home, begin construction and add rooms (remodel) to homes and shops. It is a good day for fengshui adjustments, acquiring luxuries, medical treatments (esp food/herb cures)  and making investments. Success will visit anyone who studies and/or takes exams today. Funerals on this day benefit both the living and the dead. Straight-forwardness and sincerity bring success.
"Finalizing divorce, excessive ambition and ingratitude. Exaggeration and hypocrisy bring disaster. Not a good day for taking leadership (new job) or management responsibilities."
LM Notes: The Room

Qi Node: 17 Cold Dew
Yin Collects Yang
"In the Cold Dew qi node autumn inclines toward winter. The door of the storehouse is closed; the harvest has been tallied. It is a time of descending temperatures (especially in the early mornings) that mark the growing strength of the annual Yin qi. The mornings show dew or frost. If snow falls, it suddenly melts. Yang drains downward an in. Quiet becomes silence.

As the autumn peaks and descends into winter, natural activity appears to subside. In fact, all activity withdraws inward. The northwest wind (qi) arises carrying the cold and the season of autumn peaks and declines towards winter. In the sough winter crops are planted and in the north the fall harvest is stored away. Leaves fall from the trees. Our healthy bodies continue to crystallize their fluids for winter and the environmental qi supports the process. Light moisture (yin) in the system, used to guard against the summer heat, now crystallizes and concentrates. This fluid transformation, parallel to the descent of frost, indicates a 'slowing' of the heart. In this period we should garner resources (eat heartily), conserve qi (guard Heart) and routinize qi (strengthen Kidney qi).

During this period then environmental qi is best at 7pm. Neigong is practiced inside where it it warm - but do not sweat. Your behavior in the early morning and evening should be ritual or routine. Slow down and it is easy to stay healthy at this time of year! It is not yet time to tonify yang - remember that yang tonics are called 'dangerous' and yin tonics are not. Applying yang when it is not needed or in excessive doses can impair your health."

FIRDAY October 30, Yin Earth Rabbit 18
Hexagram: 34 Da Zhuang: Great Strength
Lunar Mansion: The Neck/Dragon

LChanging: Zhouyi  Retreat is best, routine work with the clutch in and going with the flow. Generosity is key, the changing of the guard symbolizes the continuity of an entire nation. Pause and reboot.

"When you play in the sky like a dragon, among dragons, judicious timing (rather than a show of force) is appropriate. The key to the power of primordial yang is found in cautious preparation, conservation and the management of yin. If you are prepared for such force, you can use it and not lose it, and avoid being abused by it." LChanging: Zhouyi
On a Fire Rat day, this could go any which way. Fire Rat is reckless Robin Hood. Tremendous capacity to be generous, spontaneous and aggressive. Rule breaking could be the protocol today, if that's what it takes for the dragon to emerge, but do try and consider what is appropriate, if possible. In any event, use the force young skywalker.

FRIDAY October 23, Yang Water Monkey 11

Hexagram: 20 Guan: Observance
Lunar Mansion: The Ghost/Goat
Solar Indicator: Open
Wisdom is found in observance today, in spiritual matters, transitory states and what is precious but hidden. It is auspicious for honoring ancestors, making offerings to the dead, burials, entering retreat, meditation and spiritual initiations. Keep industry local, do not go to war or get married. Think contraction, calibration and focus, as opposed to expansion, progress or improvisation. Eat healthy meals and share them.

SATURDAY October 24, Yin Water Rooster 12

Hexagram: 8 Bi: Alliance
Lunar Mansion: The Willow / Roebuck
Solar Indicator: Shut
There is a high strung quality about the day. Continuity of yesterday's spiritual relativity versus progress and industry, especially as we step deeper toward winter. Alliances, group efforts and celebrations can help even out insensitivity and instability. Generally, resting on your laurels is a good idea. Unplug since the boat has no oar anyway. Relax through your conduct.

Lunar Hexagram: 47 Kun: Beset
"Kun refers to a deep pit dug on Zhou battlefields to imprison a wild and belligerent, defeated enemy officer. Kun means isolation, oppression and entrapment. For the captive, loss is made repeatedly worse by struggling against the odds...Time will tell whether enduring such hardship and pain will make you a stronger person. SUNDAY October 25, Yang Wood Dog 13
Hexagram: 23 Bo: Erosion
Lunar Mansion: The Birdstar / Horse
Solar Indicator: Design
Routine actions today work with the qualities of immaturity and timeliness. Engage in established conducts in order to coast through times of uneven auspices.
"It is auspicious for building and routine work. Good auspice is directly related to continuity, convention and not innovation. It is not auspicious for funerals/burials or marriages. It is a dangerous day for travel and/or medical treatments." LM Notes: The Birdstar
"History has recorded many failed revolutions. Bad timing or inappropriate (selfish) motive has undermined many attempts to restructure the powers that be. If you wish to revolt, do not be blinded by idealism, choose the time wisely, be just, and of impeccable virtue. Remember that leadership and eminence are matters of fate." LChanging: Zhouyi

MONDAYOctober 26, Yin Wood Boar 14
Hexagram: 2 Kun: Earth
Lunar Mansion: The Bow / Deer
Solar Indicator: Divide
"Holding back on this day is related to deeper self-reflection, education of all sorts and consulting with experts and elders - rather than forward action. It is not about mature reluctance or cowardice but about shedding inessentials." LM Notes: Divide
Enjoy lite meals today and go with the flow. Gatherings, group events and community celebrations should go well. Not a great day for endings. What beginnings you DO make, be inclusive and honor the greater continuity of life you are part of.

"It is inauspicious to push forward aggressively. Do not get married, finalize divorce, bury the dead (it will create family dissent), spend savings or speculate financially as these all lead to losing resources and cooperation."

LM The Way of Three Treasures

Lunar Hexagram: 23 Bo: Erosion
"History has recorded many failed revolutions. Bad timing or inappropriate (selfish) motive has undermined many attempts to restructure the powers that be. If you wish to revolt, do not be blinded by idealism, choose the time wisely, be just, and of impeccable virtue. Remember that leadership and eminence are matters of fate."

SUNDAY October 18, Yin Fire Rabbit 6

Hexagram: 12 Pi: Obstruction
Lunar Mansion: The Watchers / Cock
Solar Indicator: Maintain
Busy yourself at home today. There is both a suggestion of exorcism and obstruction that may best be supported with "staying put, reevaluation, self-reflection, withdrawal and postponement." LChanging: Zhouyi
Make offerings to the dead, avoid industry and anything "proactive (marriage, building, funerals & burials). Medical treatments on this day will complicate existing illness  - turn acute into chronic. Confrontation or battle on this day will lead to injury or death." LM Notes: The Watchers

Lunar Hexagram: 54 Guimei: A girl if married
"Things are auspicious for the underdog, but early success collapses. The situation is touch and go. Things can end up okay if some sacrifices are made...A little bit of self-sacrifice, on all sides, keeps the boat of society floating."
LChanging: Zhouyi

MONDAY October 19, Yang Earth Dragon 7

Hexagram: 45 Cui: Assembly
Lunar Mansion: The Net / Crow
Solar Indicator: Destroy
Without a doubt, honor your ancestors today. Consider everything to be omen. Consult the oracle, physicians and slough off the old in order to engage with community alliances. The effects of today will ripple on through the autumn and into winter. Be humble, respectful and generous while you engage in the activities and joint efforts of the day. Flirt appropriately, getting carried away won't support anything.

TUESDAY October 20, Yin Earth Snake 8

Hexagram: 35 Jin: Advance
Lunar Mansion: The Beak / Monkey
Solar Indicator: Danger
Today "is a day to pull back or edit in order to avoid punishment. It is the natural ebb of yang energy in late autumn. It is about the vulnerability that comes from weakness and exhaustion in general. Today's negativity is avoidable through respectfully accepting the natural course of things, following the season and/or embracing your Fate. Caution is the keyword of the day." LM Notes:The Beak

"Progress of all kinds is possible, but gentleness and grace are recommended. Confident subordination is the natural response to this sort of pre-ordained success, but keep an eye out for the envious. Do not let greed or bad manners ruin it." LChanging: Zhouyi
