INDICATORS

YEAR of the FIRE ROOSTER 4715
(Native Yin Metal) Analytical
"Charged: critical, intelligent, confident, alert, social, dignified, articulate, forthright, spontaneous, inspired, financially adept, challenging, meticulous and tidy.

Deplete: volatile, rude, proud, argumentative, blunt, vulgar, tactless, close-minded, hypochondriac, vain, snobby, aloof, harshly competitive and fanatical.

Image: The Rooster talked about in Chinese Astrology is well known to the Chinese as the ordinary version of the phoenix. This bird is an ancient amulet used to ward off the 5 poisonous creatures (snake, scorpion, spider, centipede and toad). The Rooster (not hen) is sacrificed only at rituals requiring oaths (trustworthy). The most familiar image is, of course, the Rooster lording over hens in the yard and dueling to the death in a cockfight - extrovert extraordinaire. There is the precision of its sharp beak (intellectual), the powerful wings (competitive) and the call to sun at dawn and dusk (eloquence). Basic materials become luxury items when chosen by the Rooster eye. Roosters collect books and documents.

Fire Rooster (1837, 1897, 1957, 2017, 2077) 'Solitary Rooster'
Fire Roosters are skillful, sensual and restless characters. They are excellent craftspeople and have a strong ambition to escape the limitations of poverty and class. They flip-flop from iron self-confidence to hopelessness and back. Though apparently strong willed they collapse in the face of difficulties. Their unapologetic, anti-social attitudes will complicate their relationships and dim their fortunes. Their sexuality is ferocious and embarrassment unknown to them. They often carry the burden of unresolved ancestral (congenital) illnesses and are haunted by the unsettled dead."

LUNAR MONTH: YANG WATER RAT (1852, 1912, 1972, 2032, 2092) ‘Mountain Rat’
WATER is the native element of the Rat Earthly Branch. Water Rats are cunning, changeable and slightly paranoid characters. Their fortunes are very uneven when young but improve with age. Their finances will peak and plummet but end up solid. They are astute in many ways, insightful but easily also distracted (untrusting). Their luck (and self-centeredness) changes when they partner with a strong and stable mate or meet a confident teacher. They are prone to wind disorders (nervousness) and poor circulation. Old age will seem like the outcome of survival.

QI NODE: 22 Winter Solstice
Yin Rules
“The Winter Solstice qi node has the shortest day and the longest night of the year. It is one of four
annual pivots that rectify the annual qi. During this qi node qi is at its height at midnight! At the end
of this qi node, the new calendar year begins. In the Chinese official calendar it is the mid-point of
winter. The astrological year is still months away.
Yin peaks but in this same qi node it begins its inevitable decline - supreme yin gives birth to the
flux of yang. Tigers mate. Christmas lights twinkle. Birth and death commingle, but life is cold and
apparently dead now begins to move toward life.
"Everywhere in Chinese cosmology black (dark) produces ‘yellow’ or light of the sun. ‘The
darkest hour is just before dawn’.”
LM The Way of Three Treasures

LUNAR HEXAGRAM: 61 Zhongfu: Holding the Center
"The action that arises from stillness is able to ‘work wonders.’ A Zen archer lets the
arrow find the target without meddling."
LM Changing: Zhouyi

WEDNESDAY January 3, Yin Wood Goat 17
Hexagram 26 Da Chu: Great Store
Lunar Mansion: The Wall / Porcupine
Solar Indicator: Danger

THURSDAY January 4, Yang Fire Monkey 18
Hexagram 11 Tai: Great
Lunar Mansion: The Stride / Wolf
Solar Indicator: Complete

Avoiding negativity is a useful skill today, resting might be one good option. Look for
opportunities to fortify and find stable partners to hang with.

“Tai is favorable for going forward and expanding. When Tai is divined natural growth is
inevitable - all plans succeed, if you do not push or rush them. Do not over analyze the situation. Recognize that things unfold by themselves.” LM Changing: Zhouyi 11 Tai

"It is auspicious to build, remodel or repair property (line clothing for winter) - in the sense for
fortify or strengthen. It is auspicious to transact routine business, banking (anything that parallels
the storing for winter), to plan but not speculate. It is beneficial to receive medical treatments
(qi in channels) It is favorable to make amulets.
"It is inauspicious to travel, argue or press lawsuits. It is not advised to dig the ground or bury
the dead."
LM Notes: The Stride

QI NODE: 23 Little Cold
Yin Declines
“In the Little Cold qi node yin inclines gracefully toward its demise. The ground may freeze
and thaw and freeze again. The sheer weight of Yin compresses yang but it does not succumb.
It may be too cold to snow. Retreat is natural gesture. The ice is cracking but it is hard to
notice the change. Yang is imagining its recovery. The qi is best at 1 am! If your bed points
East and you sleep on your right side - you face north all night. You should be dreaming in
such a way that you are reinventing yourself down to the very depths of your being. This qi
node is the inherent birth found in every death. The impulse of immortality played out in the
myriad ephemeral phenomena.
You may wake from a dream cured of a chronic condition. You may wake from a dream
remembering your true nature. Do neigong while asleep!”
LM The Way of Three Treasures

LUNAR HEXAGRAM: 27 Yi: Jaws

“Raw impulse is strong but dangerous. Excessive ambitions can bring about personal
disaster. There will be setbacks in progress. Acting properly when the time is right goes
well. In the acquisition of what you want (money or property) it is important to be
strong but modest."
LM Changing: Zhouyi

FRIDAY January 5, Yin Fire Rooster 19
Hexagram 10 Lu: Treading
Lunar Mansion: The Mound / Dog
Solar Indicator: Complete

The year and day team up to emphasize the Fire Rooster. Flopping back and forth from
iron clad confidence to hopeless, embarrassment isn't even an available concept. Seek
collaboration, grace and social engagement rather than a conquering nature...

"The process contains danger because you do not have the power to create success with
certainty. Everything depends on exactly how you conduct yourself. Humility, caution,
fear-management, and contemplation bring success.” LM Changing: Zhouyi 10 Lu

"It is time to build (thresholds, public buildings) and add on (growth of family: new baby,
new bride) to property. It is auspicious to initiate and continue routine business. It is a day
for feasting, gatherings and romance. Marriages contracted/performed today produce
resourceful and wealthy children. It is an excellent day for assemblies, parties and celebrations.
“This day brings fresh breezes in Spring, cooling mist in Summer, light rain in Fall and thin
ice in Winter. It is inauspicious to enter retreat, practice renunciation or travel alone. Avoid
confrontation."
LM Notes: The Mound

SATURDAY January 6, Yang Earth Dog 20
Hexagram 58 Dui: Pleasuring
Lunar Mansion: The Stomach / Pheasant
Solar Indicator: Harvest

There is a modest and independent quality to the day, though a short temper might ruin
opportunity.

"Generally auspicious and associated with a light-handed approach to things. It is not how
you find pleasure, but how you express it that will determine the longevity of your happiness."
LM Changing: Zhouyi 58 Dui

"It is auspicious to build, bury the dead (increase status/rank) and marry (your children
will hobnob with kings) on this day. It is a good day to make your case, to push forward
and to ask for what you are due (collecting receivables). It is a good day for gift giving
and charity (canceling debts owed you)."
“Contraindicated activity: It is inauspicious to be confrontational, break the law or squander
resources (gamble); such activities will bring years of loss and regret.”
LM Notes: The Stomach

"Let new resources and assistants come forward by standing back.”
LM Notes: Harvest
