INDICATORS - The pattern components that continuously rotate per year, month, daily, lunar or solar phase. The indicators below articulate the current alignment.
LUNAR YEAR: YANG EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance
“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under
fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.
Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and
excessively critical.
Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."
YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’
EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny
and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult
situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong
idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not
express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."
LUNAR MONTH: YANG WATER DOG (1862, 1922, 1982, 2042) ‘Family Dog’
Water Dogs are kind, generous and frugal characters. Their material fortunes are very uneven but they are, nevertheless, very generous. Their friends and family love them. They are sentimental and vulnerable to a sad story or a hopeless cause. They are prone to temper tantrums and ecstasy. They never enjoy good health. They are prone to accidents and will be injured or killed by metal weapons or tools.
Qi Node: 17 Cold Dew
Yin Collects Yang
"In the Cold Dew qi node autumn inclines toward winter. The door of the storehouse is closed; the harvest has been tallied. It is a time of descending temperatures (especially in the early mornings) that mark the growing strength of the annual Yin qi. The mornings show dew or frost. If snow falls, it suddenly melts. Yang drains downward and in. Quiet becomes silence.
As the autumn peaks and descends into winter, natural activity appears to subside. In fact, all activity withdraws inward. The northwest wind (qi) arises carrying the cold and the season of autumn peaks and declines towards winter. In the south winter crops are planted and in the north the fall harvest is stored away. Leaves fall from the trees. Our healthy bodies continue to crystallize their fluids for winter and the environmental qi supports the process. Light moisture (yin) in the system, used to guard against the summer heat, now crystallizes and concentrates. This fluid transformation, parallel to the descent of frost, indicates a 'slowing' of the heart. In this period we should garner resources (eat heartily), conserve qi (guard Heart) and routinize qi (strengthen Kidney qi).
During this period then environmental qi is best at 7pm. Neigong is practiced inside where it it warm - but do not sweat. Your behavior in the early morning and evening should be ritual or routine. Slow down and it is easy to stay healthy at this time of year! It is not yet time to tonify yang - remember that yang tonics are called 'dangerous' and yin tonics are not. Applying yang when it is not needed or in excessive doses can impair your health."

LUNAR HEXAGRAM 47 Kun: Beset
"The situation is harsh, fated and seemingly irreversible. When Kun is divined efforts to escape often lead to the worsening of circumstances. Diving Kun is inauspicious in all cases...Time will tell whether enduring such hardship and pain will make you a stronger person. The good news is, the pain will pass.”

MONDAY October 22, Yin Fire Pig 14
Hexagram 39 Jian: Stumbling
Lunar Mansion: The Bow / Deer
Solar Indicator: Divide
My teacher, Liu Ming was
a Fire Pig. Talented, supported and resolute, today's character is well suited
to the auspices. Go with patience, group events and consulting oracles.
“Events call for
experts, but, even if experts cannot be found, all goes well. Caution,
patience, humility and self-discipline pay off. If you are not anxious or
selfish, you are given success."
LM Changing: Zhouyi 39 Jian
“Auspicious activity: It
is auspicious to build and buy new property. It is an especially good day to
get married. It is favorable for divination, signing contracts,
romance/courtship and all forms of partnership. Good auspice is especially
related to festive group events, banqueting, family gatherings and/or community
celebrations. It is an excellent day to take office (begin a new job).
Contraindicated
Activity: It is not auspicious for funerals/burials (become unsettled: ghosts).
Seclusion or isolation is unfavorable (miss opportunity).”
LM Notes: The Bow
"Holding back on
this day is related to deeper self-reflection, education of all sorts and
consulting with experts and elders - rather than forward action. It is not
about immature reluctance or cowardice but about shedding inessentials."

QI NODE: 18 Frost Descends
Yin Encloses Yang
"The Frost Descends
qi node is when autumn collapses into winter. Lesser Yin gives way to Great
Yin. On Earth stasis and frost are prevalent. As the autumn descends into
winter, natural activity appears to subside. In fact, activity simply withdraws
deeper and deeper inward and down. The northwest wind carries in the growing
cold with transitional dam. Days grow short (yang diminishes). During this
period the environment grows ever more yin and is characterized by hoarfrost.
Dampness (Earth) rides the cold wind and is variable. Snow threatens. The
blustery wind is pernicious cold/damp.
Yang, withdrawing in and
downward, must not be called back up and out. Dress warmly and stay out of the
wind. During the period qi is best at 8pm. Neigong is practiced inside where it
is warm, rub your belly until it turns red. Eat warm and nourishing meals and
go to bed early. Even if the weather is not cold (temperature) do not get
caught in the wind."
LM The Way of Three
Treasures
Hexagram 53 Jain: Gliding
Lunar Mansion: The Wings / Serpent
Solar Indicator: Full
Conventional, thrifty and clever, the Earth Rat today offers a complementary character for the otherwise community-centric auspices.
"Jian is the omen read from the gliding, settling, gliding and settling of migrating birds. It is about gradual and instinctive progress. Jian also represents the growth of plants, a traditional courtship, the gracious acceptance of fate, and our natural continuity with the ancestors. It is the story of a long and predestined journey, the power of perseverance, and the predisposition (character, nature and fate) inherent in our birth.”
LM Changing: Zhouyi 53 Jian
“It is auspicious to continue routine work and to uphold and support your superiors. It is auspicious for religious rituals (not ancestral), divination (and compliance), family gatherings and celebrations. It is favorable for sponsoring and/or attending public and cultural events.
“It is very unfavorable for marriage (cause chronic illness and premature death for both partners), funerals and burials. It is inauspicious for traveling far from home. Buildings begun today become money pits (need constant repair) and the construction will cause injuries and/or accidental deaths.”

WEDNESDAY October 24, Yin Earth Ox 16
Hexagram Consult the Oracle
Lunar Mansion: The Chariot / Earthworm
Solar Indicator: Level
Lunar Mansion: The Chariot / Earthworm
Solar Indicator: Level
The active, stubborn and highly motivated character of the
day bodes well with the auspices, it's go mode. Consult the Oracle, don't
procrastinate and roll with it.
“Auspicious Activity: Great success comes to anyone who
initiates and continues industry. Business booms, all prosper. Building and
remodeling go well (bring prestige). Marriages will inspire both partners to be
their best and they will produce brilliant offspring. Funerals, memorials and
burials will allow the dead true peace (and produce scholar offspring).
Contraindicated activity: It is very unfavorable to procrastinate and/or
postpone.”
LM Notes: The Chariot
“This is a day when stable readiness and the qi of
confidence blooms into activity. Youthful anxiety and ambition are replaced by
personal strength and confidence. From this position all things look and are
possible. Educated choices are easily acted upon. Others join you to enlarge
the success of activity. The prince (yang) is mature, if inexperienced, but
ready to act independently of his mother (yin). Pleasure is the outcome of
disciplined practice. Yang qi’s previously renegade quality is matured,
integrated and dominant.”

THURSDAY October
25, Yang Metal Tiger 17
Hexagram 62 Xiao Guo: Small Succeeds
Lunar Mansion: The Horn / Crocodile
Solar Indicator: Settle
Lunar Mansion: The Horn / Crocodile
Solar Indicator: Settle
Another day for not procrastinating. The contentious yet
forgiving character of today has heaps of energy, though really it is a fresh
and measured approach that will have success.
"Success in small matters. The judicious and timely use
of small force succeeds. Being an assistant is favorable. Things go well if you
avoid pretense."
LM Changing: Zhouyi 62 Xiao Guo
“It is auspicious to begin or initiate any activity
(marriage) or series of activities. It is a good day to buy property, plant a
garden, apply for and/or begin a new job. It is ideal to apply to or enter
school, begin a construction or remodeling project. It is auspicious for
marriage proposals and making your case as asking permission is favorably
received. All activities related to children and/or young people are
auspicious. Its first appearance each year (or any Spring season) is
particularly auspicious. A child born on this day will be intelligent and
fortunate.
“Contraindicated activity: Funerals, memorials, constructing
tombs and burials will bring about disaster to a family. It is not time for
exerted effort or overcoming obstacles. The qi is fresh and unformed and
therefore should not be pressed into fixation (slavery).”
LM Notes: The Horn
