INDICATORS - The pattern components that continuously rotate per
year, month, daily, lunar or solar phase. The indicators below articulate the
current alignment.
LUNAR YEAR: YANG EARTH DOG
4716 - Faithful Vigilance
“Charged: loyal, caring, protective,
direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under
fire, just, expansive, congenial and
quiet.
Deplete: stubborn, argumentative,
spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and
excessively critical.
Image: The Dog talked
about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more
than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion.
The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots
while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even
with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."
YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’
EARTH is the native element of the
Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny
and independent characters. They are
light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult
situations and avoiding
confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong
idealistic aspirations fill their
youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not
express their feelings or thoughts
easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."
LUNAR MONTH: YIN WOOD OX (1865, 1925, 1985, 2045, 2105) ‘Ox at Sea’
Wood Ox are particularly humble and
naive characters. They do well in school and in any conventional activity
involving strength and commitment (romance, marriage and family). They often
imagine their own resources (material and emotional) to be more limited than
they are and this leads to miserliness and shyness. Their constitutions are
strong and they have few illnesses when young. Sleep is a remedy for most
ailments. In later life (after 48) they age quickly and may suffer from chronic
digestive disorders.
QI NODE: 23 Little Cold
Yin Declines
“In the Little Cold qi node yin
inclines gracefully toward its demise. The ground may freeze and thaw and freeze
again. The sheer weight of Yin compresses yang but it does not succumb. It may
be too cold to snow. Retreat is natural gesture. The ice is cracking but it is
hard to notice the change. Yang is imagining its recovery. The qi is best at 1
am! If your bed points East and you sleep on your right side - you face north
all night. You should be dreaming in such a way that you are reinventing
yourself down to the very depths of your being. This qi node is the inherent
birth found in every death. The impulse of immortality played out in the myriad
ephemeral phenomena.
You may wake from a dream cured of a
chronic condition. You may wake from a dream remembering your true nature. Do
neigong while asleep!”
LM The Way of Three Treasures
LUNAR HEXAGRAM: 3 Zhun: Sprouting
“Zhun is
favorable for young people, fresh thinking, new alliances, and gentle
progress. Zhun is an inspired, delicate and new situation
needing unpretentious leadership and experienced advice to grow. When Zhun is
divined inexperience is the basis for difficulties, there are no real outside
obstacles. Delays should be expected."

MONDAY January 14, Yin Metal Pig 9
Hexagram 40 Jie: Release
Lunar Mansion: The Bow / Deer
Solar Indicator: Open
The gentle, kind and determined character
of the day generally suits the auspices. Be open-hearted, go with the flow and
align with a group...there is opportunity abound.
“...Nowhere to go means
you have no particular goal or purpose because the freedom to choose is new.
You can let things come and go, that is just let them open up by themselves.
After every period of restraint there is a release (southwest). Inhibition naturally
thaws like ice in the spring.”
LM Changing: Zhouyi 40 Jie
“Auspicious activity: It
is auspicious to build and buy new property. It is an especially good day to
get married. It is favorable for divination, signing contracts,
romance/courtship and all forms of partnership. Good auspice is especially
related to festive group events, banqueting, family gatherings and/or community
celebrations. It is an excellent day to take office (begin a new job).
Contraindicated
Activity: It is not auspicious for funerals/burials (become unsettled: ghosts).
Seclusion or isolation is unfavorable (miss opportunity).”
LM Notes: The Bow
“The choice here is
whether to call fate something to fight or something to embrace. It is a day
with an easy qi. It is a day to appreciate how things really operate beyond the
desire that creates images and appearances...An open heart gives the option to
acquire great wisdom.”
LM Notes: Open
TUESDAY January 15, Yang Water Rat 10
Hexagram 64 Weiji: Not
Yet Across
Lunar Mansion: The Wings
/ Serpent
Solar Indicator: Shut
Today is a good day to seek out
mentors and elders. The character today is cunning, changeable and
slightly paranoid...and perhaps again, quite suitable for another day of
going with the flow and relaxing ambition.
"Expect to be
unfulfilled at first and then later satisfied. The old has not quite turned
into the new...Good for waiting and preparation, education and growth. Bad
for pressing forward, conflict, lawsuits, examinations, and travel."
LM Changing: Zhouyi 64 Weiji
“It is auspicious to
continue routine work and to uphold and support your superiors. It is
auspicious for religious rituals (not ancestral), divination (and compliance),
family gatherings and celebrations. It is favorable for sponsoring and/or attending
public and cultural events.
“It is very unfavorable
for marriage (cause chronic illness and premature death for both partners),
funerals and burials. It is inauspicious for traveling far from home. Buildings
begun today become money pits (need constant repair) and the construction will
cause injuries and/or accidental deaths.”
LM Notes: The Wings
“A Shut day is a day of
rest, whether you like it or not...Let go anyway - feel the freedom and
inaction, disconnectedness, because it offers limitless insight. Focus on your
golf swing and forget about how the kids are squandering their inheritance on
cocaine. It’s that kind of day! The river has reached the sea and even the
water is confused.”
LM Notes: Shut
WEDNESDAY January 16, Yin Water Ox 11
Hexagram 47 Kun: Beset
Lunar Mansion: The
Chariot / Earthworm
Solar Indicator: Design
Today flips to a more dull
and insensitive character that is otherwise a nice match for the
auspices where enduring hardships and withdrawal may be part of the experience.
On the other hand, there is opportunity for successful industry. Be observant
and timely with your efforts.
"The situation is
harsh, fated and seemingly irreversible. When Kun is divined efforts to
escape often lead to the worsening of circumstances. Diving Kun is
inauspicious in all cases...Time will tell whether enduring such hardship and
pain will make you a stronger person. The good news is, the pain will pass.”
LM Changing: Zhouyi 47 Kun
“Auspicious Activity:
Great success comes to anyone who initiates and continues industry. Business
booms, all prosper. Building and remodeling go well (bring prestige). Marriages
will inspire both partners to be their best and they will produce brilliant
offspring. Funerals, memorials and burials will allow the dead true peace (and
produce scholar offspring). Contraindicated activity: It is very unfavorable to
procrastinate and/or postpone.”
LM Notes: The Chariot
“It is an excellent day
to recover wisdom by stepping back, planning, recalling alliances and reassessing
our position.”
LM Notes: Design
THURSDAY January 17, Yang Wood Tiger 12
Hexagram 6 Song:
Disputing
Lunar Mansion: The Horn
/ Crocodile
Solar Indicator: Divide
Today's character is vigorous,
ferocious and scrappy. Play with observation again today, if possible, and
restraint. Today holds opportunity for those who aren't anxious or rush for
success. Think unstable but bright beginnings, rather than certainty or
completion.
"When a situation lacks clarity it is best to
retreat and wait for fortunes to change. Using litigation is a costly and risky
way to succeed. If disputes are successfully resolved, caution is still
required in handling the outcomes. Do not exert yourself in complicated or
obstructed situations. Do not force things. It is favorable to self-reflect and
to seek counsel.”
LM Changing: Zhouyi 6 Song
“It is auspicious to
begin or initiate any activity (marriage) or series of activities. It is a good
day to buy property, plant a garden, apply for and/or begin a new job. It is
ideal to apply to or enter school, begin a construction or remodeling project.
It is auspicious for marriage proposals and making your case as asking
permission is favorably received. All activities related to children and/or
young people are auspicious. Its first appearance each year (or any Spring
season) is particularly auspicious. A child born on this day will be
intelligent and fortunate.
“Contraindicated
activity: Funerals, memorials, constructing tombs and burials will bring about
disaster to a family. It is not time for exerted effort or overcoming
obstacles. The qi is fresh and unformed and therefore should not be pressed
into fixation (slavery).”
LM Notes: The Horn
"Holding back on
this day is related to deeper self-reflection, education of all sorts and
consulting with experts and elders - rather than forward action. It is not
about immature reluctance or cowardice but about shedding inessentials."
LM Notes: Divide
