INDICATORS - The pattern components that continuously rotate per year, month, daily, lunar or solar phase. The indicators below articulate the current alignment.
LUNAR YEAR: YEAR of the BOAR
"Charged: plain speaking, caring, sensuous, compromising, eloquent, tolerant, humanitarian, reliable, unselfish, funny, hard-working, lucky and gregarious.
Deplete: self-indulgent, indulgent, oversexed, luxury loving, flamboyant, secretive, long-suffering, gullible and self destructive.
Image: The Chinese character for home includes the character for this Pig. Needless to say in Chinese astrology, Pigs are the most domestic of signs. A modest sacrificial animal since ancient times, it has become a mainstay of the Chinese diet - considered a ‘great transformer,’ able to make garbage into sweet white meat. In parts of China a family’s wealth is measured in the number of Pigs one owns. The wild boar mother is considered one of the fiercest animals alive. The mother boar will attack a Tiger seeking its young without an interest in surviving - the ultimate expression of aggression. Pigs collect material objects and derive great sustenance from them. They see stuff as art/food."
YIN EARTH BOAR (1899, 1959, 2019, 2079) ‘Monastery Pig’
Earth Boars are sensual, lethargic and aimless characters. They are hard to teach and hold very strong opinions. Their previous causes are strong but may support a hardened view of life. Attractive and popular socially they cannot maintain committed relationships (overly protective then cold). Those closest to them often become their worst enemies. Their material fortunes are however good and they live in comfort and luxury. Though they appear healthy they are plagued by chronic dampness."
LUNAR MONTH: YANG METAL HORSE (1870, 1930, 1990, 2050) “ Horse in the Stall”
Metal Horses are active and talkative but not successful in completing projects. They are likeable but often offend others with their blunt and unsophisticated speech. Their fortune is uneven and their sense of themselves is often conflicted and full of struggle. They are well loved by family members, despite their characters and will often find protection from their uneven fate in family or friends. Staying home brings good fortune - travel is risky. They have weak immunity and are especially susceptible to viral and sexually transmitted diseases.
QI NODE: 10 Summer Solstice
Yang Rules
"At Summer Solstice
there is the longest day (yang) and the shortest night (Yin) of the year. The
sun is at its zenith, directly above us at noon. It is the Yang peak of the
year. Activity is highly motivated. Summer Solstice is one of four annual pivots
that rectify annual qi.
"The Yang growth,
that began in spring, peaks and turns towards its inevitable decline. Flowers
blossom and many fruits and vegetables ripen but this explosion of splendor is
a gesture of survival (launching seeds). The force of Yang, if not tempered,
will destroy rather than ripen. The Chinese character for summer depicts a
farmer at rest (idle) - growth in this part of summer needs no nursing. Yang is
raging on its own.
"During this qi
node the environmental qi is best at Noon. When you wake, practice neigong
facing due south. Do not overexert yourself; but sweating is not harmful. Chew
well. During the day eat two or three small meals, rest (nap) after lunch,
drink green and chrysanthemum tea and in the evening enjoy a light soup. Guard
the heart from strain by expressing your feelings, singing, dancing and
socializing. Before bed bucket bathes with a final cold rinse. Go to sleep just
after dark. Rest, relax, travel (vacation by sea or high mountain), exercise
modestly and do not get burned by the sun. Do not work or rest directly in the
sun of midday!"
LM The Way of Three
Treasures
48 Jing: The Well
"Jing is
about the natural reciprocity in the human relationship to nature. The Zhouyi says
that the unevenness of nature (well) mirrors the unevenness of our conduct. If
we act inappropriately we ruin our resources (dry well). In the Zhouyi nature
is not an almighty god that stands in judgement of us, meting out punishment
for our wrongs. Nature is a dialog. ”

SUNDAY June 23, Yin Metal Rabbit 21
Hexagram 42 Yi: Incease
Lunar Mansion: The
Watchers / Cock
Solar Indicator: Harvest
“Yi is about the
natural progress of things when it is enhanced by the best of conditions. Sun
and water and good soil help the tree grow strong; yet a tree is also
subordinate to the warmth, the rain and the soil. The tree also naturally
"knows” what to take and leave. Yi is the “knowledge” of nature.”
LM Changing: Zhouyi 42 Yi
“It is auspicious to
stay home (familiar places / people), study, enter retreat, initiate
austerities and make offerings to the dead. It is wise to postpone everything
proactive (marriage, building, funeral, burials).
“It is not auspicious to
be industrious in any way (building will bring loss). All positive events that
occur today will ultimately have negative results (marriage will end in
disloyalty and divorce). Medical treatments on this day will complicate
existing illness - turn acute into chronic (possibly bring on premature death).
Confrontation or battle on this day will lead to injury or death.”
LM Notes: The Watchers
“What makes this day
smooth is a sense of fearlessness. It is not so much how it goes (yang) as what
it shows (yin). Rise and fall are no longer the point - the wide view can be
taken. Ease is possible - effortless continuity on all sides. The qi seems to
float us forward quite naturally - ebbing and flowing are both acceptable. The
lessons of earthly life are found in both maturing and declining. Everything
succeeds. Cleverness and survival give way to courage and directness. Be like
the beloved monarch and not an ambitious merchant. Let new resources and assistants
come forward by standing back.”
LM Notes: Harvest
MONDAY June 24, Yang Water Dragon 22
Hexagram Consult the
Oracle
Lunar Mansion: The Net /
Crow
Solar Indicator: Open
"To consult a
physician and consult oracles (divination of all kinds) will bring clarity. It
is a good day for industry (labor/gardening = long term wealth), building
(restores clarity) and burying the dead (enhance intuition). It is inauspicious
to take anything for granted. It is inauspicious for revolution, confrontation,
breaking taboos, neglecting responsibilities or travel (someone at home
dies/gets sick)."
LM Notes: The Net
“The choice here is
whether to call fate something to fight or something to embrace. It is a day
with an easy qi. It is a day to appreciate how things really operate beyond the
desire that creates images and appearances. Accepting should be a boundless
(yin) act beyond goals - the goal has always been return to our beginningless origin
(Dao). There is no protagonist (yang) that should relax - there is only
relaxation itself (yin). Look around for a successor (new plan, idea, task) and
resume the heart/mind of a novice. The son of a rebel leader may become the
second emperor of a new dynasty. An open heart gives the option to acquire
great wisdom.”
LM Notes: Open
TUESDAY June 25, Yin Water Snake 23
Hexagram 51 Zhen:
Thunder
Lunar Mansion: The Beak
/ Monkey
Solar Indicator: Shut
"Zhen
indicates a time for a dramatic breakthrough from lethargy. Good fortune here
has everything to do with staying calm. Zhen denotes a situation where,
though things are in turmoil at first, they sort out and become beneficial in
the long run. Whether you are the rebel leader or the deposed ruler there is
good reason to proceed with standard protocol, good manners, and
determination.”
LM Changing: Zhouyi 51 Zhen
"It bodes well to
follow superiors, practice austerity and/or pool resources with others. It is a
good day to sincerely comply with divination and maintain taboos meticulously.
"It is inauspicious
to push forward, be industrious or initiate new ventures. Revolution or
demanding idealistic justice on this day will be catastrophic."
LM Notes: The Beak
“A Shut day is a day of
rest, whether you like it or not...It is ideal day for retreat, mediation and
severing ties with everything - don’t worry, it is not the end of anything! Let
go anyway - feel the freedom and inaction, disconnectedness, because it offers
limitless insight. Focus on your golf swing and forget about how the kids are
squandering their inheritance on cocaine. It’s that kind of day! The river has
reached the sea and even the water is confused.”
LM Notes: Shut
WEDNESDAY June 26, Yang Wood Horse 24
Hexagram 21 Shihe:
Biting
Lunar Mansion: The Trio
/ Gibbon
Solar Indicator: Design
"A Zhou leader was
both a warrior and a sage, not a brute. Good leaders know that it is their own
miscalculations and poor management that lead to the need for a strong use of
force (war). When we resort to harsh punishments we must do so cautiously -
even humbly."
LM Changing: Zhouyi 21 Shihe
"It bodes well to
dispose of inessentials (haircuts), edit, fast, study (Classics), take exams,
enter retreat and practice meditation. It is good to be industrious close to
home (house clean). Initiating business (particularly group enterprise) will be
fruitful if planning has been thorough.
"It is inauspicious
to push forward aggressively. Do not get married, finalize divorce, bury the
dead (it will create family dissent), spend savings or speculate financially as
these all lead to losing resources and cooperation."
LM Notes: The Trio
“It is an excellent day
to recover wisdom by stepping back, planning, recalling alliances and
reassessing our position.”
LM Notes: Design
