LUNAR YEAR: YEAR of the RAT
"Charged: Charming, diligent, perseverant, methodical, social, cooperative, discrete, frugal and observant. Rats are capable and fun loving.
Depleted: Complaining, nervous, nit picking, annoyingly analytical, stingy, scheming, cowardly, overly concentrated (mono-maniacal) and selfish.
Image: The Rat talked about in Chinese Astrology is well known to all Chinese farmers throughout history. If there is grain, rats appear, so rats are linked to prosperity. A rat year is expected to be profitable. Rats always appear in groups and, though not individually strong, they can undermine an enormous barn by gnawing and nibbling away the foundation piece by piece. Rats often view their social life as central to their existence. Sociability is required to survive. Their acute social observation makes them good mimics or actors. When they are being someone else (acting) they love center stage. Though not a sensual materialist, like the Pig, rats are hoarders and often live in clutter. They are likely to become more capable as they age..."
YANG METAL RAT (1840, 1900, 1960, 2020, 2080) ‘Rafter Rat’
Metal Rats are sensitive, meticulous and resourceful. They easily win the attention and support of others and love to compete and win. Their ambition is modified by a strong personal sense of moral and spiritual values. They enjoy independence and are ruthlessly calculating in matters of the heart and finance. Though not without enemies, they experience relatively even fortunes. Jovial in appearance they internally brood and worry over the slightest things. They are susceptible to contagious and common illnesses but live long because of treatments from expert physicians and meticulous personal habits."

LUNAR MONTH: YANG WATER HORSE (1882, 1942, 2002, 2062) “War Horse”
“Water Horses are independent, hard-working and thrifty characters. They are particularly gifted craftspeople and have a friendly demeanor. They easily offer themselves to protect and ‘save’ others (military). They are not adverse to intentional ‘tragedy’ (heroism). Their fortunes are likely to improve as they grow old. The most emotional of all Horses they tend to compromise their health with repressed feelings. Their livers are weak and they are susceptible to curses and spells.
QI NODE: 10 Summer Solstice
Yang Rules
"At Summer Solstice there is the longest day (yang) and the shortest night (Yin) of the year. The sun is at its zenith, directly above us at noon. It is the Yang peak of the year. Activity is highly motivated. Summer Solstice is one of four annual pivots that rectify annual qi.
"The Yang growth, that began in spring, peaks and turns towards its inevitable decline. Flowers blossom and many fruits and vegetables ripen but this explosion of splendor is a gesture of survival (launching seeds). The force of Yang, if not tempered, will destroy rather than ripen. The Chinese character for summer depicts a farmer at rest (idle) - growth in this part of summer needs no nursing. Yang is raging on its own.
"During this qi node the environmental qi is best at Noon. When you wake, practice neigong facing due south. Do not overexert yourself; but sweating is not harmful. Chew well. During the day eat two or three small meals, rest (nap) after lunch, drink green and chrysanthemum tea and in the evening enjoy a light soup. Guard the heart from strain by expressing your feelings, singing, dancing and socializing. Before bed bucket bathes with a final cold rinse. Go to sleep just after dark. Rest, relax, travel (vacation by sea or high mountain), exercise modestly and do not get burned by the sun. Do not work or rest directly in the sun of midday!"

LUNAR
HEXAGRAM: 31 Xian: To Be Moved
“The
growth of influence and inspiration described by Xian is at first calm
with awe, then stirred up by enthusiasm and, finally, confident enough to act.
Though the progress is gradual, patient and intuitive - success is inevitable.
The fullness of success is in the discovery of the natural reciprocity and
support of a partner or a group. This qi sensation is deeply moving and
difficult or impossible to put into words. Do not expect words to express such
deep connection; let inspiration radiate from your actions.”

31 Xian: To Be Moved
Lunar
Mansion: The Neck / Dragon
Solar
Indicator: Divide
“In all situations where
slow-growing, inspired feelings are found, things go well. You may act
confidently as inspiration takes shape and develops to fruition...When Xian
is divined, we could say, that our feelings and our body are reliable tools of
divination. A surge of inspiration is being felt.”
LM
Changing: Zhouyi
31 Xian
"It is an
auspicious day to withdraw and plan, enter retreat (withdraw and not plan),
practice meditation and seek inspiration. It is a good day to practice our
initiate austerity, respect taboos and consult a healer or physician. One can
easily recover if one rests and follows healing protocols.
"It is auspicious
to comply with the orders of superiors and/or let assistants/helpers lead the
way. The image is auspicious, in a preordained sense, but can be ruined by
unnecessary effort. It is about the useful conventions of education. Collecting
data before action.
"Contraindicated
activity: Industry, marriages and weddings, signing contracts and starting or
initiating production invite calamity. These activities will bring ruin over
the following 10 days. Building on this day causes strokes for fathers and
eldest sons. Burying the dead will cause the spread of disease. Going to battle
is disastrous. Travel by sea invites shipwrecks."
LM Notes: The Neck
"Holding back on this day is related to deeper self-reflection, education of all sorts and consulting with experts and elders - rather than forward action. It is not about immature reluctance or cowardice but about shedding inessentials."

SATURDAY July 4, Yang
Earth Monkey 14
Hexagram
56 Lu: Sojourner
Lunar
Mansion: The Root / Badger
Solar
Indicator: Full
"Favorable for
small accomplishments and temporary appeasement, but inauspicious generally.
Discretion is vital in whatever you do."
LM
Changing: Zhouyi 56 Lu
"It is auspicious
to go to school, make offerings to ancestors, consult oracles and/or
physicians. Avoid abandoned buildings and the wilderness (as spirits that cause
illness are active). Comply with superiors and taboos (follow
conventions/traditions).
"Contraindicated
activity: Marriages and weddings bring accidental death. Contracts signed today
invite betrayal and embezzlement. Travel by sea invites shipwrecks."
LM Notes: The Root
“This is an optimum day
for education, preparation, polishing, gathering resources and firming up
plans. Confidence grows as the right time and necessary resources are now part
of the vision. The qi is forming patterns and remaining in the channels.
Practice and disciplined cultivation bring confidence. The prince (yang) is
gaining support. Discipline in small matters succeeds. True confidence requires
no aggression. Though nothing needs to be done, the natural maturation of
strength occurs.”

62 Xiao Guo: Small Succeeds
Lunar
Mansion: The Room / Hare
Solar
Indicator: Level
"Success in small
matters. The judicious and timely use of small force succeeds. Being an
assistant is favorable. Things go well if you avoid pretense."
LM
Changing: Zhouyi 62 Xiao Guo
"It is auspicious
to make (sincere) offerings to ancestors, consult oracles, practice ritual and
meditation, move home, begin construction and add rooms (remodel) to homes and
shops. It is a good day for fengshui adjustments, acquiring luxuries,
medical treatments (esp food/herb cures) and making investments. Success will
visit anyone who studies and/or takes exams today. Funerals on this day benefit
both the living and the dead. Straight-forwardness and sincerity bring
success."
"Contraindicated
activity: Finalizing divorce, excessive ambition and ingratitude. Exaggeration
and hypocrisy bring disaster. Not a good day for taking leadership or
management responsibilities."
LM Notes: The Room
“This is a day when
stable readiness and the qi of confidence blooms into activity. Youthful
anxiety and ambition are replaced by personal strength and confidence. From
this position all things look and are possible. Educated choices are easily
acted upon. Others join you to enlarge the success of activity. The prince
(yang) is mature, if inexperienced, but ready to act independently of his
mother (yin). Pleasure is the outcome of disciplined practice. Yang qi’s
previously renegade quality is matured, integrated and dominant.”

QI NODE: 11 Slight Heat
Yang Declines
“In Slight or Small Heat
qi node Yang begins its inevitable decline but growth is extended. The weather
turns mild. Fruits and vegetables are abundant. Cicadas and crickets choruses
are heard day and night. Twilight is beautiful. Barns bulge with the abundance.
The Prince ascends the throne (yang matures) and becomes King. What will Yang’s
legacy be? Is it survival at any cost (brutishness) or the fullness of true and
elegant majesty (wisdom)?
“The name “Slight Heat”
refers to the mild heat that appears as the yang of the year begins its
decline. In this and the next Qi Node (“Great Heat”) the declining yang
partners with the inter-seasonal earth and creates damp (or mucus) – that is
thick and sometimes sticky qi and fluids. During this node, hot wind continues
to prevail and may cause dry Lungs, coughs, hemorrhoids, constipation and
fevers. It can aggravate existing (chronic or constitutional) heat conditions
like insomnia, heart irregularities and low- grade systemic inflammations of
the blood (eczema, dental infections, yeast infections, herpes, skin rashes).
Yang qi is past its abundant stage and clings to earth causing damp. Contagious
diseases that “rode the hot wind” in the Summer Solstice now take root. Anxiety
may crowd into dreams.
“Flowers blossom and fruits and vegetables can be harvested and continue to ripen but this explosion of splendor is about survival. It is the time when many plants extend their qi to produce strong roots and fertile seeds (create future). The Chinese character for summer depicts a farmer at rest (idle) – growth in this part of summer needs little or no nursing (prayer is common). Fall harvests will dependent on this Qi Node being mild. Mild winds can clear damp (avoid mold). Strong summer-style activity takes much more qi to maintain. Though sustained activity is recommended (wind clears damp) it is becoming important to pace oneself. Summer storms can destroy crops and excess activity can purge yang before its Autumn harvest.
“During this qi node the environmental qi (Heaven/Earth) is best at 1pm. When you wake practice neigong facing due South. Do not overexert yourself (sweat); let the qi move the blood and transform nutrients. Dress lightly, untie your hair and stroll about to avoid the damp.
Chew well. During the day eat two meals, rest (nap) after lunch, snacks of fruit (melon) are good on hot days. Drink green and chrysanthemum tea and in the evening enjoy a light savory soup. Guard the heart (shen) from strain by modestly expressing your feelings – it is natural to feel a bit anxious (sudden decline of yang) – but avoid drama/anxiety. Before bed bucket bathe (cold salt rinse) and go to sleep at dark. Rest, relax, travel (vacation by sea), exercise (modestly) and do not get burned by the sun. Do not work or rest directly in the sun of midday!!!”

“It is auspicious to
comply with superiors, make offerings to the ancestors, move home and/or

you start a lawsuit (making your case) you will lose everything (imprisonment).
If you construct a building, get married or bury the dead, disaster follows.
Everything sold today will be at a loss to the seller. Pushing forward (forcing
progress) on this day will have three times the negative result of other days.”
