INDICATORS - The pattern components that continuously rotate per year, month, daily, lunar or solar phase. The indicators below articulate the current alignment.

LUNAR YEAR: EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance

YANG DOG

“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under

fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.

Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and

excessively critical.

Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."

YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’

EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny

and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult

situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong

idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not

express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."

LUNAR MONTH: YIN FIRE SNAKE (1857, 1917, 1977, 2037) ‘Fish Pond Snake’

FIRE is the native element of the Snake Earthly Branch. Fire Snakes are mesmerizing, ambitious and disciplined characters. They have great previous causes and easily elicit the respect and support from many powerful and influential people. Their speech and charm are seductive. They have a pronounced leadership capacity. They always get what they want. En eldest child born this year will benefit his/her entire family. Their health is good. All their illnesses start out as emotional disturbances. Their spontaneity is epic - but so is their distractedness.

QI NODE: 8 Grain Sprouts

Yang Expands

"Yang in the Grain Sprouts qi node agrees to leadership through education - yang qi agrees to stay in the channels. Yang matures and takes on a less impulsive quality - it becomes steady in its discipline. The Prince leads his first successful campaign. What were fertile fields now show sprouts. The promise is strong. Trees and shrubs flourish. There is a 'small fullness'. The sages gather herbs from mountains in peace. Some early fruits are harvested.

The qi is best a 10am, get up early and practice neigong in the shade, away from the wind. Several short sessions in the day would be best. Bucket bathes before bed and retire shortly after dark. Working closely with others on big projects is auspicious. Be a part of something big - something that concerns more than your personal comfort and routines."

Hexagram 34 Da Zhuang: Great Strength

There are shrewd and determined qualities to the day, and the capacity to make adjustments and be productive. However, use caution and let open-heartedness lead the way. “The wise use great strength with great caution, because the know it is costly (great injury). In general, the authors of the Zhouyi give great strength no value, unless it is paired with wisdom. However, it is also observed that even the weak, when in a desperate situation, naturally possess great strength - the will to survive. The force or instinct to survive has great strength and can have a successful result. This kind of great strength should not be confused with belligerence or mere violence." LM Changing: Zhouyi 34 Da Zhuang "It is auspicious to build, remodel and make fengshui adjustments (increase opportunities/wealth [public part of home]). It is auspicious to initiate business, sign contracts and get married (strengthen family ties.). It is auspicious for investments, banking (gardening [increase fertility]) and study (the classics). It is an especially good day to exercise (martial arts), socialize (create parties, feasts and celebrations). It is also advantageous to travel, start a journey or vacation. Solar Indicator: Shut

Impulsive, resourceful and lovable, are Fire Dragon qualities of the day, though other indicators suggest fortification, rest and turning those resources inward. Tend to family and work on small projects, ideally close to or for the benefit of home.

"It is auspicious to build, remodel or repair property (line clothing for winter) - in the sense to fortify or strengthen. It is auspicious to transact routine business, banking (anything that parallels the storing for winter), to plan but not speculate. It is beneficial to receive medical treatments (qi in channels) It is favorable to make amulets. 
"It is inauspicious to travel, argue or press lawsuits. It is not advised to dig the ground or bury the dead."

"It is best to subordinate to or ally yourself with the strong or wait to accumulate more strength and resources. Do not be rambunctious, distracted or diverted. Small projects done well will eventually add up to success. Obstacles and delays can be expected in any forward action.”

“This day brings fresh breezes in Spring, cooling mist in Summer, light rain in Fall and thin ice in Winter. It is inauspicious to enter retreat, practice renunciation or travel alone. Avoid confrontation."

Today's auspices suggest stepping back. If the strength of today's character prompts advancement, keep actions focused and aligned with protocol.

"Xu suggests that waiting is a part of the natural unfolding (fate) of all situations. Xu is about making the most of waiting - using the power of patience and procrastination to avoid struggle and develop wisdom in action. Accepting fate is not about abandoning intelligence. A wise and able person has the sensitivity to find the freedom within fate. The wisdom of Xu is the clarity to hold back and go forward at the right times.”
