INDICATORS - The pattern components that continuously rotate per year, month, daily, lunar or solar phase. The indicators below articulate the current alignment.

LUNAR YEAR: YANG EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance

“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under

fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.

Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and

excessively critical.

Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."

YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’

EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny

and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult

situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong

idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not

express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."

LUNAR MONTH: YIN FIRE SNAKE (1857, 1917, 1977, 2037) ‘Fish Pond Snake’

FIRE is the native element of the Snake Earthly Branch. Fire Snakes are mesmerizing, ambitious and disciplined characters. They have great previous causes and easily elicit the respect and support from many powerful and influential people. Their speech and charm are seductive. They have a pronounced leadership capacity. They always get what they want. En eldest child born this year will benefit his/her entire family. Their health is good. All their illnesses start out as emotional disturbances. Their spontaneity is epic - but so is their distractedness.

QI NODE: 9 Grain Ripens

Yang Matures

"Grain is both a seed and a food. When grain ripens (develops its beard) food stores are renewed and the seeds for next year are also secured. Grain Ripens qi node is a time for first grain harvests. Food that will be harvested in autumn can also now be planted. Yang becomes a new Father and awkwardly rejoices. The Prince becomes worthy of the legacy of power. New alliances are made and old alliances confirmed - confidence spreads widely. The sun’s warmth transforms the damp of spring rain. The name Grain Ripens refers to the maturation of grain/seeds when yin and yang unite in the plant.

“The sudden burst of growth however, has a dark side. As hot qi breaks away from spring wind it may enter the Lungs (skin) too quickly (allergies and fevers). Sudden temper tantrums unseat the hun shake the shen. The heart is opened up and vulnerable - defensiveness lashes out. Emotional outburst in summer release stagnant qi but can also damage the shen/heart. Insomnia may occur or get worse. All our tissues and cells are meant to flourish (expand) at this time so it is important to maintain a good appetite (and diet). Breakfast is very important.

“Accidents and injuries occur often. Be careful.

“During this qi node qi is best at / near noon. In the morning practice neigong facing south. Do not exert yourself; let the neiqi (inner energy) cool the blood and transform nutrients. Rub your stomach in circles. During the day eat two modest meals, drink green tea and in the evening eat a very light supper Enjoy light savory (salty) soups. Guard the heart.

“Before bed bucket bathe, wash your hair and go to sleep early. Sleeping in until 7am is okay. Work, travel, rehearse - don’t dream. Planning is over - fulfill promises. Be active, not ‘aggressive’. Cultivate the summer qi by going places and doing things. Multi-task is okay. Show and express your feelings but do not overdo your expression. Don’t plan piano lessons; rehearse for a recital (coming soon). Chew well, drink to satisfy thirst (not more) exercise outdoors if possible, go for a walk and/or do some gardening."

Today’s qi character is gullible and strong willed providing an uneven quality to the otherwise cooperative auspices. Invest in your family and eat lightly (see current Qi Node recommendations). Discipline and generosity are key. “Jia Ren is about well-ordered, supportive families and family-like groups that have a collective purpose. Selfless caregivers (mothers/nourishment) make households and family-like groups strong. Selfless and consistent inner strength is the basis of true communities. Orderly family/communities nurture great leaders who, in turn, make the alliances that create fair and just nation-states." LM Changing: Zhouyi 37 Jia Ren “It is auspicious to start a building (brings prosperity), get married (brings fertility), bury the dead (resolves karma) and educate the young (secure longevity) on this day. It is a good time to move house (into a city). These actions today cause a person or family and all their projects to flourish. On this day investments increase in value. It is ideal to give or receive (spend) inheritances. Enjoying the arts is appropriate. Lost treasures can be found on this day. It is ideal for self-cultivation, meditation and enjoyment. The Reckless Robin Hood nature of today may mean missed opportunity. Today is about momentum rather than completion, calibration rather than perfection. "Everything is ending well but decline and disorder is inevitable. Do not hurry or press for completion...Do not imagine that change ever stops. Things do not come to an end. When you succeed, do not assume things are complete or finished. To maintain success is no easy matter. When we are triumphant, we are fated to have the same decline and loss as our predecessor." LUNAR MONTH: YANG EARTH HORSE (1858, 1918, 1978, 2038, 1098) “Corralled Horse” “Earth Horses are daring, impulsive and strong characters. They often find themselves working against the odds. All their projects are obstructed from time to time. They are likely to meet with disaster and/or injury in their youth. Complications from these early injuries will haunt their health for life. They may experience dramatic catharsis in life - more than once. Their fortune is dark and their struggle only leads to exhaustion. They are prone to excess damp.”

Today marks a transition into the Earth Horse month, where projects and strength are currency, yet patience and generosity are king. The Fire Ox day adds an assertive and oafish quality to the otherwise powerful skill of simple initiation...release grudges and prepare for retreat.
"Bi is favorable when appearances match the inner nature of things. Simplicity, rather than extravagance, is recommended as the aesthetic of confidence. Beware of the deception that comes from superficial decoration."
