INDICATORS - The pattern components that continuously rotate per year, month, daily, lunar or solar phase. The indicators below articulate the current alignment.

LUNAR YEAR: YANG EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance

“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under

fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.

Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and

excessively critical.

Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."

YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’

EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny

and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult

situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong

idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not

express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."

LUNAR MONTH: YIN FIRE SNAKE (1857, 1917, 1977, 2037) ‘Fish Pond Snake’

FIRE is the native element of the Snake Earthly Branch. Fire Snakes are mesmerizing, ambitious and disciplined characters. They have great previous causes and easily elicit the respect and support from many powerful and influential people. Their speech and charm are seductive. They have a pronounced leadership capacity. They always get what they want. En eldest child born this year will benefit his/her entire family. Their health is good. All their illnesses start out as emotional disturbances. Their spontaneity is epic - but so is their distractedness.

QI NODE: 8 Grain Sprouts

Yang Expands

"Yang in the Grain Sprouts qi node agrees to leadership through education - yang qi agrees to stay in the channels. Yang matures and takes on a less impulsive quality - it becomes steady in its discipline. The Prince leads his first successful campaign. What were fertile fields now show sprouts. The promise is strong. Trees and shrubs flourish. There is a 'small fullness'. The sages gather herbs from mountains in peace. Some early fruits are harvested. The qi is best a 10am, get up early and practice neigong in the shade, away from the wind. Several short sessions in the day would be best. Bucket bathes before bed and retire shortly after dark. Working closely with others on big projects is auspicious. Be a part of something big - something that concerns more than your personal comfort and routines."

Solar Indicator: Open

Today's character is a bit stiff, after yesterday's loose cannon. Aim for an open heart and let the nature of the day allow for calibration, healing if you will, and appropriate action.

"Favorable for the practice of circumspection and restraint. Being observant and conservative with resources is auspicious. Knowing how to see and when to use limits brings success."

“Auspicious activity: It is auspicious to build and buy new property. It is an especially good day to get married. It is favorable for divination, signing contracts, romance/courtship and all forms of partnership. Good auspice is especially related to festive group events, banqueting, family gatherings and/or community celebrations. It is an excellent day to take office (begin a new job).

Contraindicated Activity: It is not auspicious for funerals/burials (become unsettled: ghosts). Seclusion or isolation is unfavorable (miss opportunity).”

Hexagram 41 Sun: Diminish

Boundaries may feel limiting today. Appropriate adjustments, cleaning up boundaries, today will encourage graceful passage tomorrow. When in doubt, relax, rest up and celebrate! “Sun is about how sacrifice brings good fortune. It is also about the enlightened management of diminished resources and the transformation of reduced circumstances into an advantage. Sun is about attracting new resources into your life by eliminating inessentials. It is a time when recycling the trappings of success allows you to stay in power. It is when less is more.” LM Changing: Zhouyi 41 Sun “It is auspicious to continue routine work and to uphold and support your superiors. It is auspicious for religious rituals (not ancestral), divination (and compliance), family gatherings and celebrations. It is favorable for sponsoring and/or attending public and cultural events. “It is very unfavorable for marriage (cause chronic illness and premature death for both partners), funerals and burials. It is inauspicious for traveling far from home. Buildings begun today become money pits (need constant repair) and the construction will cause injuries and/or accidental deaths.” LM Notes: The Wings

QI NODE: 9 Grain Ripens

Yang Matures

"Grain is both a seed and a food. When grain ripens (develops its beard) food stores are renewed and the seeds for next year are also secured. Grain Ripens qi node is a time for first grain harvests. Food that will be harvested in autumn can also now be planted. Yang becomes a new Father and awkwardly rejoices. The Prince becomes worthy of the legacy of power. New alliances are made and old alliances confirmed - confidence spreads widely. The sun’s warmth transforms the damp of spring rain. The name Grain Ripens refers to the maturation of grain/seeds when yin and yang unite in the plant.

“The sudden burst of growth however, has a dark side. As hot qi breaks away from spring wind it may enter the Lungs (skin) too quickly (allergies and fevers). Sudden temper tantrums unseat the hun shake the shen. The heart is opened up and vulnerable - defensiveness lashes out. Emotional outburst in summer release stagnant qi but can also damage the shen/heart. Insomnia may occur or get worse. All our tissues and cells are meant to flourish (expand) at this time so it is important to maintain a good appetite (and diet). Breakfast is very important.

“Accidents and injuries occur often. Be careful.

“During this qi node qi is best at / near noon. In the morning practice neigong facing south. Do not exert yourself; let the neiqi (inner energy) cool the blood and transform nutrients. Rub your stomach in circles. During the day eat two modest meals, drink green tea and in the evening eat a very light supper Enjoy light savory (salty) soups. Guard the heart.

“Before bed bucket bathe, wash your hair and go to sleep early. Sleeping in until 7am is okay. Work, travel, rehearse - don’t dream. Planning is over - fulfill promises. Be active, not ‘aggressive’. Cultivate the summer qi by going places and doing things. Multi-task is okay. Show and express your feelings but do not overdo your expression. Don’t plan piano lessons; rehearse for a recital (coming soon). Chew well, drink to satisfy thirst (not more) exercise outdoors if possible, go for a walk and/or do some gardening."

Use the "Midas Touch" possible in the day and support the movement of transition. Flow from the end of one cycle into the next via continuity, momentum and grace.

“Auspicious Activity: Great success comes to anyone who initiates and continues industry. Business booms, all prosper. Building and remodeling go well (bring prestige). Marriages will inspire both partners to be their best and they will produce brilliant offspring. Funerals, memorials and burials will allow the dead true peace (and produce scholar offspring). Contraindicated activity: It is very unfavorable to procrastinate and/or postpone.”

Stay home, or in familiar places if possible. And otherwise go with initiation and alliance. Today is good for projects, for example, but not completion. Take the opportunity for review...

“It is favorable to go forward in concert with others after reflection and alliance is established."

“It is auspicious to begin or initiate any activity (marriage) or series of activities. It is a good day to buy property, plant a garden, apply for and/or begin a new job. It is ideal to apply to or enter school, begin a construction or remodeling project. It is auspicious for marriage proposals and making your case as asking permission is favorably received. All activities related to children and/or young people are auspicious. Its first appearance each year (or any Spring season) is particularly auspicious. A child born on this day will be intelligent and fortunate.

“Contraindicated activity: Funerals, memorials, constructing tombs and burials will bring about disaster to a family. It is not time for exerted effort or overcoming obstacles. The qi is fresh and unformed and therefore should not be pressed into fixation (slavery).”
