LUNAR YEAR of the EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance

ALL DOGS

“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under

fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.

Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and

excessively critical.

Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."

YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’

EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny
and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult
situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong
idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not
express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."

LUNAR MONTH: YANG WOOD TIGER (1854, 1914, 1974, 2034, 2094) ‘Standing Still Tiger’

Wood is the native element of the Tiger Earthly Branch. Wood Tigers are vigorous, ferocious and scrappy characters. They enjoy material comfort and socializing with the famous and powerful. They suffer from jealousy and indecision. They have difficulty relating to their parents and partner. They often choose to live alone. They are prone to tumorous growths, acute pain and phlegm. They meet many major obstacles in life and overcome them all.”

QI NODE: 1 Spring Begins

Yang Reverses Yin

"Though Spring Begins means the return of yang qi it is really mostly theoretical. We feel that Yin is done, but Yang is still only active 'under the surface'. The overall trend has shifted towards Yang but it may not be accompanied by much apparent change, like warm weather or increased stamina. The first new moon begins the Spring Festival (Chinese New Year). Spring Festival, celebrated for the 2 weeks of this qi node, in China is like Christmas, New Year, Fourth of July and everyone's birthday all rolled into one. Everyone celebrates and is very generous and sociable to encourage spring to grow. This is the gan ying principle. It is a celebration of yang renewal.

"During this qi node qi is best at 3am. One should practice neigong just before dawn facing - northeast. Do not exert yourself, but let the yang qi play - this renews us and gives us longevity. During the day eat several small meals with family and friends. Renew relationships.

"Acts of renewal and generosity are auspicious and rewarding. Avoid being very productive and do not sign agreements.

"With the beginning of spring the Liver/hun 'comes alive'. In the early nodes of spring dreams can be very revealing of our physical and spiritual condition and the state of our ancestors. As the ghosts (yin) of winter fade into the background the beneficent ancestors (yang) come forward. Spring qi has a kind of hope in it - we dream both day and night during this time. Though our qi resources are not yet solid, it is very auspicious to being cultivating new and renewable projects. The caution is important - if we move too fast the weak underpinnings of spring yang collapse. If impulse accepts education all goes well."

“You are repeatedly trapped and struggling. You must stoically accept restraint.

If you accept that you are in a sinkhole, find the message in it, and develop patience,

things go well."

“Good auspice has to do with withdrawing and transforming and not pushing forward.

A willingness to learn and reform will bring good fortune.”

"It is an auspicious day to withdraw and plan, enter retreat (withdraw and not plan),

practice meditation and seek inspiration. It is a good day to practice our initiate austerity,

respect taboos and consult a healer or physician. One can easily recover if one rests and

follows healing protocols.

"It is auspicious to comply with the orders of superiors and/or let assistants/helpers lead

the way. The image is auspicious, in a preordained sense, but can be ruined by unnecessary

effort. It is about the useful conventions of education. Collecting data before action.

"Contraindicated activity: Industry, marriages and weddings, signing contracts and starting

or initiating production invite calamity. These activities will bring ruin over the following

10 days. Building on this day causes strokes for fathers and eldest sons. Burying the dead

will cause the spread of disease. Going to battle is disastrous.

Travel by sea invites shipwrecks."

Today may be outspoken and anxious. Seek advice and education. Be confident and disciplined,
not aggressive.

“What is unformed has great potential but is also lacks clarity - so success, even progress, is

difficult. It is unfavorable for those who are anxious and impulsive. People of limited capacity

may miscalculate their ability to make use of an opportunity. Read the advice patiently and do

not consult the Zhouyi again on this matter. Meng is often divined when you are obsessed and

anxious about something."

"It is auspicious to go to school, make offerings to ancestors, consult oracles and/or physicians.

Avoid abandoned buildings and the wilderness (as spirits that cause illness are active). Comply

with superiors and taboos (follow conventions/traditions).

"Contraindicated activity: Marriages and weddings bring accidental death. Contracts signed

today invite betrayal and embezzlement. Travel by sea invites shipwrecks."

"Shi is time for order and cooperation. Agreements and alliances foster good fortune. When

Shi is divined teamwork and personal discipline can transform danger into success, but losses

"It is auspicious to make (sincere) offerings to ancestors, consult oracles, practice ritual and

meditation, move home, begin construction and add rooms (remodel) to homes and shops. It

is a good day for fengshui adjustments, acquiring luxuries, medical treatments (esp food/herb

cures) and making investments. Success will visit anyone who studies and/or takes exams

today. Funerals on this day benefit both the living and the dead. Straight-forwardness and

sincerity bring success."

"Contraindicated activity: Finalizing divorce, excessive ambition and ingratitude. Exaggeration

and hypocrisy bring disaster. Not a good day for taking leadership or management

responsibilities."

“There will be modest gains. Do not be overly concerned about limits and restrictions.

“It is auspicious to comply with superiors, make offerings the ancestors, move home and/or immigrate. Only routine work may avoid negativity. Contraindicated activity: If you start a lawsuit (making your case) you will lose everything (imprisonment). If you construct a building, get married or bury the dead, disaster follows. Everything sold today will be at a loss to the seller. Pushing forward (forcing progress) on this day will have three times the negative result of other days.”

“Preparedness makes action timely and successful. Tradition, convention, training,

education - all forms of readiness, inspire action. Forces join together and new alliances

produce unexpected results. Action taken with such thorough preparation is bound to

success. The qi of the day is stable, progressive and functional. Clarity and calm (yin)

are not unseated by action (yang). Focus and repetition succeed. Procrastination and

equivocation is contraindicated.”
