LUNAR YEAR: EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance

YANG DOG

“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under

fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.

Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and

excessively critical.

Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."

YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’

EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny

and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult

situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong

idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not

express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."

LUNAR MONTH: YIN WOOD RABBIT (1855, 1915, 1975, 2035) ‘Temple Rabbit’

Wood is the native element of the Rabbit Earthly Branch. Wood Rabbits are shrewd, playful

and determined characters. They enjoy partying and are sexually promiscuous. Though their
fortunes are good, they often squander their good fortune being frivolous (pathetic friends,
sports, pop-culture). They often escape the results of their misconduct, but not without
strenuous manipulations. They have weak immunity and will always suffer from minor
chronic blood disorders or infections.

QI NODE: 5 Clear and Bright

Yang leads Yin

"Clear and Bright says it all! From the equality of the equinox arises the pure light of pristine Yang - fresh and vigorous. The days grow longer and everything is in its place for new growth. If the weather is harmonious the first harvest of green tea is made.

Abundant offering rites commemorating the ancestors let the dead (Yin) know that the living (Yang) made it successfully through to another winter. A little pride is okay. The warmth of Heaven pours down (rain and warm wind) like a continuous silk filament. Confidence spreads. Yang is fully activated.

In this qi node the qi is best at 7am. Rise early and practice neigong facing due east. Appreciate the Yang by going places and doing things. Be busy, it's okay! Be excellent at your work, remodel the house and volunteer to assist those in need. Be strong!"

“In Sui goals (hunt) are reached but it is important not to make pursuit (killing) itself the goal. An important aspect of successful leadership is knowing when to subordinate and who or what to follow.

“In this hexagram, the source of clarity and the strength that bring true success is subordination to fate - the act of following. When your efforts are rewarded is is stopping that brings success. Getting caught up in pursuit for its own sake will make you mad and diminish your resources."

Gullible and strong willed tendencies today make the auspices of a risky day, even more volatile. Take a chill pill, eat lightly and generally back way off: first gear all day. 

“Short-term plans succeed in the context of a broad view. Things are turning for the better. Routine work comes to fruition. It is favorable to have a clear goal before setting out."

“Good auspice has to do with withdrawing and transforming and not pushing forward. A willingness to learn and reform will bring good fortune...Collecting data before action."

“To roust hypocrisy in his new alliances the leader must bait his hidden enemies (yin) by showing vulnerability. This day is a qi expression of true power but all the action is fraught with danger and risk. The games of political power are also the precursors of decline. The power plays show yin to be drawing life from the heart of yang. Success is limited now to a kind of survival. Manipulation and covert action succeed. Elegance becomes the mask of cleverness and intrigue. Doing only what needs to be done is best. Old habits or patterns of pressing forward will invite catastrophe. Beware grudges.”

The Reckless Robin Hood image shows up as the character of today, while the other auspices don't support much other than compliance and rest. If you feel conflicted, go for modesty and withdraw.

“Inauspicious for all intimate personal relationships. It is a time to withdraw and cut your losses. Both sexes are at risk to be abused by the inappropriateness of a relationship. Think rot and ruin. A kind of corruption has entered the very foundation of things.”

"It is auspicious to go to school, make offerings to ancestors, consult oracles and/or physicians. Avoid abandoned buildings and the wilderness (as spirits that cause illness are active). Comply with superiors and taboos (follow conventions/traditions).

"Contraindicated activity: Marriages and weddings bring accidental death. Contracts signed today invite betrayal and embezzlement. Travel by sea invites shipwrecks."

“It is a day for resting on your laurels. Success is established and secured and the new state seems to govern itself. Enemies are few. It is a time for inward reflection (yin) on the bare face of reality (yang). Struggle (yang) is no longer possible or necessary (yin). Decline is not feared and success not celebrated. Wisdom approaches and withdrawing succeeds. Art is the demonstration of confidence, dignity and wisdom - be artful. No more accumulating - decorate with modesty. The way of perfecting power is austerity and restraint. Do less, have less, show less and seek nothing. Enjoy what is already manifest.”

Assertive and oafish qualities get stuff done today, though you may miss opportunity without pause or standing back to make room for calibration and collaboration. Focus and straight forward qualities open opportunities.

“Da Guo contains instructions on how to avoid disaster in heavy, grave or weird and unconventional circumstances. When you get entangled in excess, going forward with caution may be the best thing to do. Excess and eccentricity have their place. Something greater than the usual mechanical sense of cause and effect is at work in Da Guo."

"It is auspicious to make (sincere) offerings to ancestors, consult oracles, practice ritual and meditation, move home, begin construction and add rooms (remodel) to homes and shops. It is a good day for fengshui adjustments, acquiring luxuries, medical treatments (esp food/herb cures) and making investments. Success will visit anyone who studies and/or takes exams today. Funerals on this day benefit both the living and the dead. Straight-forwardness and sincerity bring success."

"Contraindicated activity: Finalizing divorce, excessive ambition and ingratitude. Exaggeration and hypocrisy bring disaster. Not a good day for taking leadership or management responsibilities."

LUNAR MONTH: YANG FIRE DRAGON (1916, 1976, 2036, 2096) ‘Sky Dragon’

Fire Dragons are extremely resourceful, lovable and attractive characters. They are very good with their hands and have great good fortune. They repeatedly overestimate their abilities and refuse help. They have a large and diverse group of friends and stay close to their family. Conversely their intolerance of their enemies (and weakness) often unseats them, giving their enemies great power over them. Their impulsive energy means there is never a dull moment.

LUNAR HEXAGRAM: 43 Guai: Lurch

“Guai tells us when impulsiveness, abruptness and breaking with standard protocol are okay. Success, in the case of Guai, is a timely, but abrupt, escape. Sometimes it is best to immediately quit a situation and/or abandon a relationship because of its excessive restrictions. Guai carries the ambiguous message that misconduct is sometimes appropriate.”

"It is a time of education and great spiritual and material success. Don’t rush. Your superiors notice you. Opportunity is abundant. Alliances are offered to you on all sides.”

“It is auspicious to comply with superiors, make offerings to the ancestors, move home and/or immigrate. Only routine work may avoid negativity. Contraindicated activity: If you start a lawsuit (making your case) you will lose everything (imprisonment). If you construct a building, get married or bury the dead, disaster follows. Everything sold today will be at a loss to the seller. Pushing forward (forcing progress) on this day will have three times the negative result of other days.”
