LUNAR YEAR: EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance

YANG DOG

“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under

fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.

Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and excessively critical.

Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."

YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’

EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."

LUNAR MONTH: YIN WOOD RABBIT (1855, 1915, 1975, 2035) ‘Temple Rabbit’

Wood is the native element of the Rabbit Earthly Branch. Wood Rabbits are shrewd, playful and determined characters. They enjoy partying and are sexually promiscuous. Though their fortunes are good, they often squander their good fortune being frivolous (pathetic friends, sports, pop-culture). They often escape the results of their misconduct, but not without strenuous manipulations. They have weak immunity and will always suffer from minor chronic blood disorders or infections.

QI NODE: 5 Clear and Bright

Yang leads Yin

"Clear and Bright says it all! From the equality of the equinox arises the pure light of pristine Yang - fresh and vigorous. The days grow longer and everything is in its place for new growth. If the weather is harmonious the first harvest of green tea is made.

Abundant offering rites commemorating the ancestors let the dead (Yin) know that the living (Yang) made it successfully through to another winter. A little pride is okay. The warmth of Heaven pours down (rain and warm wind) like a continuous silk filament. Confidence spreads. Yang is fully activated.

In this qi node the qi is best at 7am. Rise early and practice neigong facing due east. Appreciate the Yang by going places and doing things. Be busy, it's okay! Be excellent at your work, remodel the house and volunteer to assist those in need. Be strong!"

"Progress of all kinds is possible, but gentleness and grace are recommended. Confident subordination is the natural response to this sort of pre-ordained success, but keep an eye out for  the envious. Do not let greed or bad manners ruin it...The truth is, nothing is accomplished without a network of co-factors and helpers (family and friends [alive and dead]). Modesty and grace express our interconnectedness.”

Gentle and forgiving tendencies may lighten the mood today, especially if yesterday felt challenging. Play/calibrate through aesthetic and consult the oracle.

“Auspicious activity: It is auspicious to build and buy new property. It is an especially good day to get married. It is favorable for divination, signing contracts, romance/courtship and all forms of partnership. Good auspice is especially related to festive group events, banqueting, family gatherings and/or community celebrations. It is an excellent day to take office (begin a new job).

Contraindicated Activity: It is not auspicious for funerals/burials (become unsettled: ghosts). Seclusion or isolation is unfavorable (miss opportunity).”

“This is a day when stable readiness and the qi of confidence blooms into activity. Youthful anxiety and ambition are replaced by personal strength and confidence. From this position all things look and are possible. Educated choices are easily acted upon. Others join you to enlarge the success of activity. The prince (yang) is mature, if inexperienced, but ready to act independently of his mother (yin). Pleasure is the outcome of disciplined practice. Yang qi’s previously renegade quality is matured, integrated and dominant.”

LUNAR HEXAGRAM: 17 Sui: Pursuit

“In Sui goals (hunt) are reached but it is important not to make pursuit (killing) itself the goal. An important aspect of successful leadership is knowing when to subordinate and who or what to follow.

“In this hexagram, the source of clarity and the strength that bring true success is subordination to fate - the act of following. When your efforts are rewarded is is stopping that brings success. Getting caught up in pursuit for its own sake will make you mad and diminish your resources."

Practice gratitude today and let nourishment, observation and focus even out any negligence.

“Yi is about the natural progress of things when it is enhanced by the best of conditions. Sun and water and good soil help the tree grow strong; yet a tree is also subordinate to the warmth, the rain and the soil. The tree also naturally "knows” what to take and leave. Yi is the “knowledge” of nature.”

“Good auspice relies heavily on inclusiveness, following custom (manners), social convention and guileless loyalty. Good fortune comes through the natural ‘chain of command’. Misfortune is directly related to breaking taboos, ignoring family, conventions and/or defaulting on commitments of any kind. Lie still, move slowly and methodically and the snake won’t strike.

"The qi of the day is stable, progressive and functional. Clarity and calm (yin) are not unseated by action (yang). Focus and repetition succeed. Procrastination and equivocation is contraindicated.”

Be clever and resourceful to even out the otherwise unstable and deceptive tones of the day.

“Zhun is favorable for young people, fresh thinking, new alliances, and gentle progress. Zhun is an inspired, delicate and new situation needing unpretentious leadership and experienced advice to grow. When Zhun is divined inexperience is the basis for difficulties, there are no real outside obstacles. Delays should be expected."

“Auspicious Activity: Great success comes to anyone who initiates and continues industry. Business booms, all prosper. Building and remodeling go well (bring prestige). Marriages will inspire both partners to be their best and they will produce brilliant offspring. Funerals, memorials and burials will allow the dead true peace (and produce scholar offspring). Contraindicated activity: It is very unfavorable to procrastinate and/or postpone.”

A good day for articulation, medical treatments, compliance and being social. Notice who shows up...you may notice old friends.

“Raw impulse is strong but dangerous. Excessive ambitions can bring about personal disaster. There will be setbacks in progress. Acting properly when the time is right goes well. In the acquisition of what you want (money or property) it is important to be strong but modest."

LM Changing: Zhouyi 27 Yi

“It is auspicious to begin or initiate any activity (marriage) or series of activities. It is a good day to buy property, plant a garden, apply for and/or begin a new job. It is ideal to apply to or enter school, begin a construction or remodeling project. It is auspicious for marriage proposals and making your case as asking permission is favorably received. All activities related to children and/or young people are auspicious. Its first appearance each year (or any Spring season) is particularly auspicious. A child born on this day will be intelligent and fortunate.

“Contraindicated activity: Funerals, memorials, constructing tombs and burials will bring about disaster to a family. It is not time for exerted effort or overcoming obstacles. The qi is fresh and unformed and therefore should not be pressed into fixation (slavery).”
