LUNAR YEAR: EARTH DOG 4716 - Faithful Vigilance
YANG DOG
“Charged: loyal, caring, protective, direct, helpful, intuitive, insightful, private, calm under
fire, just, expansive, congenial and quiet.
Deplete: stubborn, argumentative, spiteful, vain, rigid, frozen with anxiety, stingy and
excessively critical.
Image: The Dog talked about in Chinese Astrology is the Chow. This dog has been domesticated for more than 5000 years, both as an aggressive house guard and a battlefield companion. The battlefield Chow was ferocious at crippling the horses of the enemy chariots while never losing sight of its trainer (whose corpse it would protect even with its own life). The Dog epitomizes loyalty."
YANG EARTH DOG (1898, 1958, 2018, 2078) ‘Mountain Dog’
EARTH is the native element of the Dog Earthly Branch. Earth Dogs are modest, funny
and independent characters. They are light-hearted and generous, often quitting difficult
situations and avoiding confrontations. A short temper is hidden behind their joking. Strong
idealistic aspirations fill their youth and soften as the hardships of life close in. They do not
express their feelings or thoughts easily. They are prone to qi stagnation and poor circulation."
LUNAR MONTH: YANG FIRE DRAGON (1916, 1976, 2036, 2096) ‘Sky Dragon’
Fire Dragons are extremely resourceful, lovable and attractive characters. They are very good with their hands and have great good fortune. They repeatedly overestimate their abilities and refuse help. They have a large and diverse group of friends and stay close to their family. Conversely their intolerance of their enemies (and weakness) often unseats them, giving their enemies great power over them. Their impulsive energy means there is never a dull moment.

Yin and Yang Courtship
"Spring ends with the inter-seasonal qi node Grain Rains. This qi node is the transition
from spring to summer. It charges the growth process with increased warmth (Yang) and
Rain (Yin). The growing and transforming process is now seen everywhere in Nature.
The power of growth hits the ground and spreads. Flowers bloom in orchards. Buds, the
true outcome of spring, appear everywhere with the promise of abundance. The mantle
of power is given to the princely forms of Yang. It is auspicious if thunder (sound of spring)
is heard in this qi node to welcome the power of summer - just as it is auspicious that the
quiet of autumn ends in the utter silence of winter.

From this position all things look and are possible. Educated choices are easily acted upon. Others join you to enlarge the success of activity. The prince (yang) is mature, if inexperienced, but ready to act independently of his mother (yin). Pleasure is the outcome of disciplined practice. Yang qi’s previously renegade quality is matured, integrated and dominant.”

Today’s adventurous nature is also ambitious. The indicators otherwise suggest focus, discipline and nourishment. Seek mentors or partners for advise and generally keep it close to home.

If disputes are successfully resolved, caution is still required in handling the outcomes. Do not exert yourself in complicated or obstructed situations. Do not force things. It is favorable to self-reflect and to seek counsel.”

“The key to the auspices has to do with how you act in a dangerous situation…It is auspicious to stay home, repair walls (security), remodel, take tonics and comply with superiors. Alliances and collaborations come to fruit and good 'luck'. This day is inauspicious for travel because you will be robbed (road) or drowned (sea). Strangers and strange (foreign) places offer calamity.”

A good day for problem solving, resolving ancestral qi and going with the flow. Conflict may support necessary change. Be generous, calibration happens on all levels.
"The situation is harsh, fated and seemingly irreversible. When Kun is divined efforts to escape often lead to the worsening of circumstances. Diving Kun is inauspicious in all cases...Time will tell whether enduring such hardship and pain will make you a stronger person. The good news is, the pain will pass.”

Conversely it is auspicious to enter retreat if there is great sincerity (renunciation) and strong resolve (compassion for others). The benefits you receive on this day should be shared with others (living and dead). Burials on this day are celebrated by both the living and dead ancestors (bring great wealth).
